Nourishing the joy and wonder of childhood
The Space
Nestled in by the woods, near the end of a cul-de-sac
in what many of us know by the colonized name of Amherst,
The Maple Hill Play Garden sits on occupied Nonotuck, Nipmuc and Pocumtuck land.
We are in the process of learning how to build relationship with our local Nipmuc relatives,
and give back in ways that the people actually want. We have a long, long way to go.
We are very new in this process, and are learning much along the way.
If you would like to learn more from/about our local Hassanamisco Nipmuc relatives
(based out of the Hassanamisco Nipmuc reservation in Grafton, MA) from their perspective - including their histories to the present; their take on building relationship/giving back; and their thoughts on land acknowledgements - please visit their website using the following link:
This website includes a series of informative webinars that are helpful for those of us
who are not indigenous to this land, and act as a jumping-off point for our learning.
We are immensely grateful for the teachings they have openly shared here.

In terms of a physical description of the space here:
The Maple Hill Play Garden backs to the Larch Hill conservation area - a beautiful space
that also abuts Bramble Hill Farm, a local organic farm.
Browse through the following photos for a virtual tour of The Maple Hill Play Garden's indoor and outdoor space (please excuse the construction in the transformation of our outdoor area!).
*As a family with young children ourselves, we do not offer in-person tours at this time.
Please feel free to browse these photos to get a feel for the program space.
